MAP GALLERY COMPETITION

The Map Gallery Competition provides a fun opportunity to showcase your creative talents in presenting geographic information. The competition takes place at the annual Memphis Area Geospatial Conference, and participants must register for and attend the conference in order to qualify.

Cash Prizes

  • $200 - 1st place (each category)

  • $100 - 2nd place (each category)

  • $50 - 3rd place (each category)

    ENTRY CATEGORIES

    (one entry per author)

  • Students

  • Professional (includes private, federal, state, local government, & non­profit agencies)

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Map author must be registered for and attend the conference in order to be eligible for participation in the map gallery competition.

  • Map entries must display title and author.

  • Map entries must display information depicting the map’s development such as hardware, software, data, methods used, purpose, problems encountered, results, conclusion, etc.

  • Submit map entries using the Map Gallery Registration Form.

MAP GALLERY DISPLAY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Size specifications: Minimum 18” x 24” and Maximum 30” x 40”

  • Hard Copy Maps

    • Participants are encouraged to bring their own boards for mounting printed posters. We will have some boards available for participants, but we can’t guarantee they will be the right size.

    • We will provide easels for displaying printed map gallery submissions.

  • Digital Maps

    • Digital map entries must be submitted as PDF or Image files and must contain one (1) primary map frame.

    • Insets are allowed.

    • Map books and story maps are not eligible.

    • We will display digital map entries on a large monitor/screen during the conference.

Map Scoring Criteria

Map Gallery entries will be judged by registered attendees during the Conference. Each conference attendee will be allowed to vote one time during the conference for their favorite entry in each category, using the following criteria:

  • Aesthetic

    • Is it visually pleasing?

    • Is the contrast between map elements clear?

  • Content

    • Is the content informative?

    • Is it easy to understand?

    • Is the data sound?

  • Creativity

    • Are the visuals original?

    • Is the map a presentation of a unique concept?
